Doggy Friendly Parks

So just in case you live in So.Cal. and have yet to find a park for you four legged friend to roam here's a list that i know of and please feel free to add more.

So if your in Venice there's a really cool park at Windward & Pacific, it's kinda small but nice area and near the beach.

And if your in the San Fernado Valley there's a really awsome park that's not closed in though with a track around the park and all, it's south of Ventura 3blks on DeSota, just fallow DeSota into the nieghborhood as it curves then the park is just on the right.

Oh and I know of one other park in Laural Cyn, but unfortunatly i don't know exact directions, i think if you take Laurel Cyn from either direction you head east at the light on the top of the hill then i'm pretty sure you'll see signs of hear dogs barking. That's the biggest park i've been to that's also fenced in, but in the summer i hear you have to watch for snakes? Don't know though, but good luck!!!!

Hi everyone!

I am hoping to find an angel to help me and my gorgeous dog Socrates out. It's a big one ... I am moving back to Australia from Boston and want desperately to take my baby with me. However, all the quarantine places in Australia are filled up for the next 5-6 months. Since I can only legally (well, legally-esque - i think i'm already over my visa limitations) stay in america for another month, I cannot wait with him. So, I am hoping to find someone out there who loves animals and is willing to foster Socrates during the time it takes to secure him a spot in quarantine.

He is a beautiful fox terrier/beagle mix, with a truly old soul and the heart of an angel. He LOVES humans, and would bring so much love and affection to you. He's nearly 5, in good health, and I would of course provide a much remuneration as I possibly could, incl his food/vet bills.

It's a big ask, I know, but I have to try and believe that there is someone out there who may be able to help me and my beloved get through this. If you are interested, or know anyone who may be, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE let me know asap!

Hoping and loving,
Lauren and Socrates
xox

Basset Hound

Are there any basset hound owners out there? Since I rescue animals, I usually get mixed breeds. Flash found me out mowing one morning, foot sore, ear sore, skinny, and dehydrated. I stopped mowing, saw the full blooded basset, and asked him (yes, I said this out loud) "what are you doing clear over here?" He smiled - yes, he actually smiled - at me and hobbled over to me. Using his rabies tag, I contacted his owner. First she said she was coming over that night to get him, but she sent a friend instead. This friend called the dog "chico" and the dog sat on my feet and wouldn't budge. I refused to release the dog, and the friend said the owner would be by in the moring to pick up the dog. I never heard from them again. Hubby renamed the dog Flash (the dukes of hazzard had a basset named Flash), and he's been with us ever since. (He still smiles and wags his tail every time I walk into the room.)

Does anyone in here know about Bassets? I've done a lot of research on the breed, I've been offered hundreds of dollars for Flash (apparently he's show quality which I didn't know before I nuetered him), but I'd love to hear from someone with experience.

Thank you!

This is what is happening in New Orleans right now folks. We need your phone calls IF any animals are going to get saved.

http://www.pasadosafehaven.org/NEWS/NEWS.htm

The post above is from tonight from the Pasado website. Here are the key points:

9/10 6:47pm PST ASCENSION PARISH SHERIFF STOPS RESCUERS FROM SHELTER - ARMED GUARDS OUTSIDE WON'T LET US IN! Because the Louisiana State Veterinarian refuses to lift the 15 day quarantine hold period, the Gonzales state-designated shelter, is now considered full by the local sheriff. The Parish Sheriff is holding Pasado Rescuers back with loaded guns, despite the fact we have full vans, loaded with animals - the result of a 19-hour-day of rescue. We need to raise hell - call local media, whoever you can, the state vet needs to cut the bureaucracy and allow foster families, from around the country, to take these animals!

We need calls to every media outlet and govt official you know.
Start with CNN, MSNBC, FOX. Then the Gov of LA (her office phones are open), and then try the White House. Can you believe the White House has closed their comment line for the weekend? So try emailing or faxing them. See phone#s below.
